Description

Allright so here's basically how I go through trying to render a skull right now. From early stage to late stages. Congratulations me though :la:, this is the first time I really don't hate my drawings!

After the fuckup that was take 2 cestarian.deviantart.com/art/N…

I'm really glad that I'm back around the area where I was during take 1 cestarian.deviantart.com/art/I…

I noticed I couldn't really detail the teeth while working at such a low (vertical) resolution. I'd need like... surgeon hands and a microscope, so I tried to just do my best on the values there and well, hope it didn't turn out too bad. This took me 30 minutes total, and I would say I would have been able to do better if I'd spent another 30 minutes on it, but I can't because I have no idea how I would make this any better. This is the first time that I feel like I actually got the overall skull shape right, and it's funny because it looks like one of those "anime head shapes" you'll see in tutorials around the net, except what would have been ears... is a cheekbone! :dummy:

I've got mixed feelings about this, my biggest problem is the flast perspective, as gathered from the last take I have no idea what the skull looks like from the side or from an angle, but from imagination I think this turned out pretty well. And btw that eyebrow expression I put on him was deliberate, I did it by accident, then decided it looked kinda cool and left it like that :D

I feel like I now have some actually legit rendering skills. What do you think? Any tips besides drawing from a different perspective?

I'm still not sure how I feel about silhouetting things before rendering them, I guess that part is something I have to work on.

No matter how nice this looks compared to what I used to be able to throw out, it's nowhere near like... this level skullappreciationsociety.com/w…
:saddummy:

But at least they look like paintings, right? :dummy:

Revision: Got pointers that the cheekbone wasn't supposed to be rounded, and that the nose was too low (and possibly too big) I tried acting on it and made these minor changes in hopes it would look better. Feel like I coulda given the cheekbones another pass though.
